Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to join our team in Port Huron, Michigan. This position focuses on general ledger accounting, regulatory filings, financial reporting, and analysis, requiring a strong initiative and attention to detail. As a long-term contract opportunity, this role provides stability while offering diverse responsibilities in accounting and finance.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare general ledger entries and ensure reconciliations comply with established policies and internal controls.

- Research and resolve statutory accounting issues by applying relevant principles to transactions.

- Manage the requirements and documentation for annual financial statement audits.

- Perform monthly and quarterly asset reconciliations to maintain accuracy and consistency.

- Review and finalize financial statements, including the balance sheet and operating statements, for completeness.

- Analyze key financial metrics, such as net income, and prepare detailed reports.

- Identify variances in financial data and present findings to management for resolution.

- Support accounts receivable and accounts payable functions to ensure smooth operations. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Economics.

- Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, with familiarity in the financial services industry considered an advantage.

- Solid understanding of financial statements and key accounting concepts.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, paired with a detail-oriented approach.

- Proactive team player with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and a willingness to learn proprietary software.

- Expertise in corporate tax, sales tax, journal entries, and general ledger management.

- Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
