RoleSummary
The Engineering Technician III will provide Seaborne Target O&M Support at Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme, CA. The role requires a broad range of technical skills in a marine environment, including HAZMAT, Quality Assurance, small vessel operation, mechanical, electrical, and electronics.
Primary Duties- Under supervision, apply technical knowledge to perform tasks on marine engines on seaborne target systems (QST A/B/I, FACT, HSMST, SDST).
- Assist higher‑level technicians with build‑up, replacement, and troubleshooting of seaborne target components, marine engines, and mechanical/electrical systems.
- Follow preventive maintenance programs using service manuals and schematic charts for marine engines and related equipment.
- Operate and qualify for forklift, overhead crane, marine travel lift, and other target‑specific equipment.
- Maintain equipment logs, maintenance action forms, and work‑time tracking sheets.
- If required, qualify and maintain Portable Command and Control Unit (PCCU) Remote Control Operator (RCO) certification.
- Operate as a vessel operator for HSMST, QST A/B/I, FACT, and SDST targets if required.
- Outdoor duties on shore and afloat; surfaces may be dry or wet.
- Shift work with multiple overnight assignments in a seaborne environment.
- Work includes sitting, standing, walking, lifting, and reaching.
- Must lift 50–100 lbs. with assistance and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Work schedule is a 9/80 schedule (Mon–Thu 9 hrs, alternating Fridays - 8 hrs on/off).
- Overtime will be required.
- Travel is required on a routine basis; primary work location is Port Hueneme.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; technical school or specialized training required.
- 2–4 years of experience in performing the stated functions may replace education.
- Experience in a military environment (E4+) or on a military facility preferred.
- Basic understanding of Computer/Networking/MS Office.
- Works well with others as a member of a team.
- Knowledgeable in testing mechanical systems and components per technical manuals.
- Correct and safe use of hand tools, power tools, engine, and electronic test equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, and engineering data.
- Follow OSHA and Navy mandated safety guidelines (glasses, respirator, hearing protection, steel toe shoes).
- Minimum USCG 100‑Ton Credential desirable.
- Current CA Driver's License required; insured through company vehicle insurance policy.
- U.S. Citizenship required with a Secret Security Clearance (prior to start date) maintained throughout employment.
