What you’ll be doing:

The Electrical Subcontractor Manager is responsible for the operational oversight and management of electrical subcontractors. You will ensure that all electrical installations, testing, and commissioning activities are completed safely, efficiently, within budget, in compliance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.

You will also act as the primary point of contact between the shipyard and the electrical subcontractors, facilitating communication, coordinating activities, and resolving any issues that may arise.

Subcontractor Management:

Manage and coordinate the activities of electrical subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle, from pre-construction to commissioning and handover

Evaluate subcontractor capabilities, track their performance, and ensure they adhere to contractual obligations

Monitor subcontractor staffing levels, resource allocation, and productivity to maintain project schedules

Provide technical guidance and support to subcontractors, resolving any electrical issues or discrepancies

Planning and Coordination:

Collaborate with the project management team to develop detailed electrical installation plans, schedules, and work packages

Coordinate subcontractor activities with other trades and shipyard operations to ensure seamless integration and minimise disruptions

Organize and lead regular meetings with subcontractors to review progress, address concerns, and coordinate upcoming work

Ensure subcontractors have access to the latest drawings, specifications, and other relevant documentation

Quality Control and Compliance:

Oversee subcontractor compliance with all applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., IEC, NEC, Lloyds, MCA)

Implement and enforce quality control procedures for electrical installations, ensuring that all work meets specified requirements

Conduct regular inspections and audits of subcontractor work to verify quality and identify any non-conformities

Manage the resolution of any electrical deficiencies or punch list items

Safety Management:

Ensure subcontractors adhere to all shipyard safety regulations and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.

Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks with subcontractor personnel.

Identify and mitigate any potential electrical hazards on the job site.

Investigate any electrical incidents or accidents involving subcontractors and implement corrective actions.

Cost Control and Reporting:

Monitor subcontractor costs, including labour, materials, and equipment, and ensure that work is completed within budget

Review and approve subcontractor invoices and progress payments

Identify and manage any potential cost overruns or variations

Prepare regular progress reports for the project management team, including updates on subcontractor performance, schedule adherence, and cost status

Documentation and Communication:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all subcontractor activities, including daily reports, progress photos, and inspection reports

Establish and maintain effective communication channels with subcontractors, the project management team, and other stakeholders

Prepare and submit regular progress reports to the project management team

Manage all relevant documentation

Experience

National Vocation Qualification level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related field

Extensive experience in electrical installation and construction, with a significant portion of that experience in a supervisory or management role, preferably in a shipbuilding environment

In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, components, and installation methods used in shipbuilding

Familiarity with relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations

Strong understanding of shipbuilding processes, terminology, and safety procedures

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills

Proven ability to manage and coordinate subcontractors effectively
