Overview
The CHAPTER study evaluates a novel tuberculosis (TB) screening approach in high-burden informal settlements in South Africa using a cluster randomized trial design. The Study Coordinator will oversee both quantitative and qualitative components, including managing community screening activities, coordinating data collection across study arms, supporting implementation, and ensuring high-quality epidemiological, diagnostic, and operational data in collaboration with field teams, laboratories, and stakeholders.
ResponsibilitiesYOUR JOB WILL BE:
Oversight and monitoring of screening, enrolment, research data collection and participant retention and clinical management
:
- Ensure that recruitment, screening, enrolment and retention targets are met, and systems are in place and implemented to meet agreed targets.
- Ensure management of all assigned staff to ensure adherence to protocols and SOPs.
- Get familiarized with the research protocols and TB preventive treatment implementation at the country level.
- Ensure timely, accurate, complete, collection of data from research participants.
- Coordinate transportation of study documents to and from study site.
- Ensuring all activities are conducted according to GCP standards and the study protocol.
- Oversee quality control of study documents.
- Liaise with stakeholders at study site and research team.
- Liaise with data management team to identify, address and resolve queries timeously.
Staff management:
- Ensure staff have all the appropriate support and materials to complete their work.
- Supervise and support the research team in carrying out project duties.
Provide weekly reports to Project Manager on:
- Project status e.g., Screening and enrolment numbers or number of interviews conducted.
- Quality assurance and control, and corrective actions.
- Stock levels of equipment, consumables and documents at each site.
General Administration:
- Address and ensure error corrections are attended to.
- Ensure maintenance of study equipment.
- Maintain inventory for all study equipment, consumables and documents, and order of stock for the study site.
- Responsible for preparing files and documents for Audits/Monitoring, in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Assist in writing and distribution of minutes.
- Qualification/Professional Membership.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Own car.
Advantageous
- Master s degree in public health.
- GCP certification.
- Experience in research, primarily in the field of health research, preferably on TB/HIV.
- At least 3 years’ experience managing people and/or projects.
- At least 5 years’ experience in public health/clinical research.
- TB from programmatic/clinical perspectives based on local and international policies.
- Intermediate personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, and excel spread sheet.
- Efficient in Microsoft office.
- Quantitative and qualitative epidemiological research methods.
- GCP training.
- Good communication, presentation and report writing skills.
- Ability to solve practical problems.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Good management and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in written and spoken English and fluency in local languages.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Own car.
