Position: Accountant / Bookkeeper

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant/Bookkeeper with customs and import/export experience to join our team in Gqeberha. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full accounting function, maintaining accurate financial records, handling customs-related documentation, and supporting business operations with reliable financial data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate financial records and manage day-to-day bookkeeping.

  • Handle customs documentation, declarations, and coordinate with clearing agents.
  • Process and reconcile bank statements, accounts payable and receivable.

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.

  • Process invoices, payments, journals, and payroll entries.

  • Perform VAT, PAYE, and other statutory calculations and submissions.

  • Ensure compliance with SARS customs regulations and import/export procedures.

  • Monitor duties, tariffs, and shipping charges to ensure accurate cost accounting.

  • Assist with annual audit preparation and liaise with external auditors.

  • Monitor cash flow, budgets, and forecasting where applicable.

  • Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role.

  • Experience in customs, import/export documentation, and compliance is essential.

  • Relevant accounting qualification is advantageous.

  • Proficient in Pastel, Xero, or similar accounting software.

  • Strong knowledge of SARS submissions, payroll processing, and financial reporting.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
