Youth Peer Support Worker, Full-Time
Post Closing date - February 1, 2026

The Youth Peer Support Worker is an integral member of the Foundry care team and must have lived experience of navigating mental health or substance use challenges as a youth or young adult. This experience is used purposefully and professionally to foster trust, hope, and resilience among youth aged 12‑24. The role involves planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating community‑based recreational, social and educational activities, while providing peer support through one‑to‑one and group settings.

The Youth Peer Support Worker acts as a resource to youth and service providers, promoting recovery‑oriented, culturally safe, and trauma‑informed care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purposely share aspects of lived experience to build trust, normalize challenges, and promote recovery, while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate community‑based recreational, social and/or educational activities to meet youth needs.
  • Encourage and facilitate youth participation in activities; provide guidance and instructions.
  • Monitors and observes the youth’s behaviour. Reports problems to the supervisor.
  • Provides skill‑building as life skills and social skills, model appropriate behaviour.
  • Support youth accessing services, including orientation to Foundry and systems navigation.
  • Ensures the safety of clients. Responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
  • Participates in the development of individual activity plans.
  • Assist with outreach by accompanying youth to appointments and community resources.
  • Maintain liaison with clients’ families, other community service providers and professionals.
  • Assist with peer support groups and information sessions to foster connection and empowerment.
  • Maintain accurate records, statistics and reports as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications – Education/Experience
  • Certificate in a related human/social service field or recreation course.
  • Six (6) months recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Lived experience of navigating mental health and/or substance use challenges as a youth or young adult is required.
Other Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to use lived experience to provide hope and model recovery in a respectful, non‑judgmental manner.
  • Cultural humility and understanding of diverse socio‑economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong communication skills, including active listening and empathy.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of mental health and community resources.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week. Monday to Friday (flexible hours and some evening hours)

HSA Benchmark: $24.97 - $28.62 JJEP Wage Grid 8 – Activity Worker

This is an HSA Bargaining Unit Position and requires Union membership.
