About the FacilityDouglas T. Jacobson State Veterans' Nursing Home, Port Charlotte, Charlotte County, Florida. The facility offers: 1 CNA to patient ratio 1‑10; 1 nurse to patient ratio 1‑20; ceiling lift systems; smoke‑free environment; on‑site pharmacy; ample supplies and PPE; “state‑of‑the‑art” patient care resources.
OPS SLPN Weekend Warrior ProgramAvailable at $25.21/hour. Eligible shifts:
Monday‑Thursday 3PM‑11PM or 11PM‑7AM, Friday‑Sunday. Must work at least one shift per pay period. No benefits.
- Excellent retirement package and deferred compensation plan.

Minimum Qualifications- Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays as required.
- License as a Practical Nurse in Florida.
- Current Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
- Effective communication in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Successful completion of Level II background check and drug test.
- Education and employment history verifiable (attach credentials).
- One year experience in long‑term care environment (nursing home, skilled nursing or assisted living).
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
- Experience administering medications in a skilled nursing facility.
- Computer skills:
Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- The incumbent is responsible for providing quality care to veteran residents to ensure their health, safety, and security in accordance with established agency Standard Operating Procedures and Nurse Practice Act.
- Administer medications and perform treatments, complete accurate clinical documentation, supervise CNAs and other support staff.
- Coordinate nursing care, assist with orientation of new personnel, and establish communication with patients and families.
- Report observations to appropriate personnel (physician, nurse supervisor, family) and maintain accurate records.
- Assist physicians with special tests and procedures within the scope of the Florida Nurse Practice Act.
- Implement facility and nursing department policies, comply with all regulations, and maintain supplies and equipment.
- Participate in emergency response, continue educational programs, and perform additional duties as assigned.
