Job Description POSITION OVERVIEW
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all branch operations within a construction, renovation, or specialty-trade environment. This role ensures operational excellence, financial performance, workforce management, customer satisfaction, and compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. This role includes managing project managers, field crews, warehouse and administrative staff, subcontractors, and CDL drivers to ensure operational efficiency, financial performance, and customer satisfaction. The General Manager will drive growth initiatives, maintain compliance with safety, transportation, and regulatory requirements, and uphold high standards of quality and professionalism.
ESSENTIALRESPONSIBILITIES Branch Operations Management
- Oversee daily operations across all construction and renovation projects, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
- Manage project workflows, including planning, estimating, bidding, job costing, and resource allocation.
- Monitor branch P&L, budgets, and key financial metrics; provide insights for improvement.
- Ensure operational compliance with OSHA standards, local building codes, and company policies.
- Oversee warehouse operations, material procurement, inventory management, and fleet/equipment maintenance.
- Build and maintain strong client and subcontractor relationships to facilitate repeat business and referrals.
- Monitor project execution, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality expectations are met.
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and warranty issues with professionalism.
- Collaborate with sales and account management teams on new opportunities and growth initiatives.
- Supervise, coach, and support branch staff, including project managers, crews, warehouse, and administrative personnel.
- Lead recruiting, hiring onboarding, and workforce planning initiatives.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and professional development.
- Conduct performance evaluations, corrective actions, and ongoing staff support.
- Implement and enforce OSHA and company safety policies across all projects and sites.
- Ensure proper documentation for audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.
- Oversee fleet, tools, and equipment for safe operation and regulatory compliance.
- Supervise and support CDL drivers assigned to the branch, ensuring compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and Company transportation and safety requirements.
- Oversee fleet safety practices, including vehicle inspections, maintenance schedules, and accident reporting procedures.
- Participate in or lead investigations and corrective actions related to vehicle incidents involving branch personnel.
- Lead or participate in branch- or company-level initiatives as assigned.
- 5+ years of experience in operations management, preferably in construction, renovation, or specialty trades
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, P&L management, and forecasting.
- Knowledge of construction processes, project management, and building codes.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations, safety protocols, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with project management and operational software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, ERP systems).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and be eligible to operate a company-owned or personal vehicle for business purposes.
- Travel regularly to job sites, branch locations, vendor facilities, and client meetings as required by business needs.
- Maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record in accordance with Company standards.
- Full-time position with standard office hours, Monday through Friday.
- Occasional overtime or extended hours may be required based on project demands.
- Frequent visits to job sites may be required.
- Frequent walking, standing, and exposure to outdoor construction conditions.
- Occasional lifting of materials, tools, or equipment up to 25–50 pounds.
- Use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.
