The Waste Services division offers customized waste processing solutions for hazardous and non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste, including landfill diversion, sustainability programs, solidification of liquid waste, recycling, wastewater treatment, and waste sequestration.
VLS also offers divisions dedicated to Railcar Cleaning and Repair Services and Marine Services. Railcar Services delivers specialty cleaning for difficult-to-clean products (chemicals, hardened materials, and pressurized gases) and comprehensive repairs, tank car qualifications, and maintenance. Marine Services provides barge cleaning, repair, and gas-free facilities for chemical solvents and downstream petroleum products.
Job SummaryUnder direct supervision, assist in quick repair of barges inside and/or outside. The Quick Repair Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical regulating and controlling devices, safety, and flow valves. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Responsibilities- Assist with quick repair of barges (inside and/or outside under supervision).
- Install, repair, and maintain mechanical regulating and controlling devices, safety devices, and flow valves.
- Support related duties as assigned to ensure operational readiness and safety.
- Basic math, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
- Ability to work long hours performing repetitive motions in any weather.
- Occasional weekend or holiday work.
- Dependable and able to manage time effectively.
- Mechanically inclined and familiar with using hand tools and torque wrenches.
- Willingness to help out in other departments as needed.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Must pass background check and drug screening.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights (up to 15 feet).
- Prior experience with bubble leak tests.
- Prior experience with valve removal or reassembly.

Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, work near moving mechanical parts; at heights and in confined spaces; may encounter fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation and vibration. Hot surfaces and sparks, loud noise, and dirty clothing are common.
