Plant Mechanic Supervisor (Port Arthur, TX)
SALARY: $35.5112 - $44.3660, Hourly (DOE&Q) NON-EXEMPT

OverviewTo perform highly skilled electrical and mechanical work in the maintenance, repair and operation of water and wastewater treatment plants and lines; and to provide lead supervision and technical assistance to Plant Mechanics.
SupervisionReceives directions from the Wastewater and Water Utilities Superintendent, or higher supervisory level. Supervision of Plant Mechanics and lower division staff. Exercises technical and functional supervision over maintenance personnel.
Responsibilities- Participate in the operation, repair, and maintenance of the City s wastewater and water plants including lift stations, pump stations, storm drainage pumping stations, conveyance and distribution lines and related facilities.
- Ensure compliance with TCEQ (or any equivalent agency) requirements for the sewer plants, water plant and lift stations in regard to electrical systems and equipment.
- Maintain, install, or replace electrical systems and equipment relating to water and wastewater treatment and municipal facilities including lighting systems, pumps, and other high voltage power systems.
- Develop and direct a regular inspection schedule of equipment, machinery, and facilities; troubleshoot electrical and mechanical aspects of the water and wastewater systems.
- Perform general and complex electrical and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks in the servicing of the City s water and wastewater systems and equipment.
- Repair and replace electrical devices; make decisions and take action to ensure safety of people and buildings.
- Monitor operation of and adjust electrical devices and equipment including timer switches, power generators, printed circuit boards, lamps, fixtures, and AC/DC drives.
- Perform electrical system wiring and installations.
- Investigate complaints and reports of electrical malfunctions; adjust, repair, or remove defective equipment; make field repairs of damaged equipment.
- Operate test instruments such as voltmeter, amp meter, transistor checker, loop meter, and other electronic related equipment.
- Interpret electrical plans and specifications and provide service as needed.
- Lubricate and pack pumps, replace worn or damaged parts, and troubleshoot pumping machinery.
- Clean and check valves, bubbling lines, regulators, compressors, and filters.
- Replace bearings, shelves, seals, and belts as necessary.
- Assess generators for efficient and proper operation.
- Perform a variety of preventive maintenance tasks on pumping and electrical equipment and machinery.
- Maintain accurate work records, order supplies, parts, and materials.
- Maintain mental and physical condition to perform duties, including the ability to work under stressful circumstances and in diverse environments; communicate effectively, and establish cooperative working relationships.
- Knowledge of: Methods, materials, tools, and practices used in the repair of electronic and mechanical devices; principles of electronics and electricity; occupational hazards and standard safety precautions; principles and tools used in pump machinery maintenance and repair; safe and efficient work practices with electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to: Supervise, train, and monitor performance of subordinate employees; work with independence; interpret written and oral instructions including blueprints and wiring diagrams; troubleshoot electrical systems; train pump mechanic personnel; perform skilled electrical work; prepare reports and maintain records; perform work at heights; use and care for tools and equipment; work in emergency situations; communicate effectively; establish and maintain cooperative relationships.
- Experience and Training: Five years of experience in maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment used in water and wastewater treatment; equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade with additional technical courses in electrical maintenance or electronics; equivalent to five (5) years of coursework, training, and experience of the Journeyman Electrician licensing program.
- License or Certification: Possession of, or ability to obtain within two (2) years of appointment, Class II Collections (wastewater) and Class C Distribution (Water) licenses; possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate Texas driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
