Job Title: Director of Basketball, Wellness & Student Development
Reports To: Chief of Schools

Primary
Purpose:
Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the district’s basketball program while developing and implementing comprehensive wellness and student development initiatives that support academic success, character development, and whole-child growth. Ensure compliance with all applicable policies including district guidelines.
Education :
- Bachelor's degree in education, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Must hold or be willing to obtain a Valid Texas teaching certificate
- CDL (or ability to obtain), preferred
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of successful coaching experience, preferably at secondary level
Special Knowledge/Skills- Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
- Ability to manage budget and personnel and coordinate campus functions
- Ability to interpret and explain policy, procedures, and data
- Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Other qualifications deemed necessary by the Board
- Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
- Knowledge of state and local policies governing athletics
- Strong knowledge base of “best practices” in athletic and physical education curriculum
- Ability to meet established deadlines
- TX Commercial Driver License with P and S endorsements or willing to obtain one
- Provide oversight of all district basketball programs (middle and high school).
- Develop and implement a competitive, student-centered basketball program aligned with district goals.
- Ensure compliance with local rules and district policies.
- Supervise and evaluate basketball coaching staff.
- Coordinate and assist game scheduling, tournaments, transportation, and facility usage.
- Oversee inventory, equipment management, and program budgeting.
- Design and implement district-wide wellness initiatives that promote physical, mental, and emotional health.
- Collaborate with counselors, campus administrators, and PE staff to align programming.
- Develop leadership and character-building programs for student athletes.
- Monitor academic progress of athletes and implement academic support plans as needed.
- Promote positive school culture, sportsmanship, and community engagement.
- Develop and manage athletic and wellness budgets.
- Oversee purchasing, fundraising, and financial reporting processes.
- Ensure proper documentation of expenditures, travel, and program costs.
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations and risk management procedures.
- Serve as liaison between the district, parents, community organizations, and athletic associations.
- Promote district programs through community outreach and partnerships.
- Support recruitment, retention, and professional development of coaching staff.
- Perform other duties assigned.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Athletic Support Staff, Student engagement and Wellness Support Staff.

Physical Demands/Environmental FactorsThis position oversees the district’s weight room program, including the development and supervision of strength and conditioning plans, instruction on proper lifting techniques, enforcement of safety protocols, and management of equipment.
