Clallam County is seeking a dedicated and compassionate professional to serve as a Juvenile Probation Officer. This position independently manages a caseload involving the investigation of referrals, preparation of cases for court and adjudication, and supervision of juveniles assigned to probation. The Juvenile Probation Officer works closely with juveniles and their families by providing counseling, coordinating restitution, community service, diversion, and prevention efforts, and supporting treatment-focused interventions.
Responsibilities include preparing custody and pre- and post-placement reports for Superior Court, monitoring compliance with court orders, and guiding juveniles toward positive behavioral change. The role may also involve special project coordination and specialized caseload assignments, such as Youth at Risk, CHINS, Truancy, deferred cases, SSODA, and other designated programs. This position performs both field and office work and plays a critical role in promoting accountability, rehabilitation, and community safety.
NOTE: This is a grant funded position, which is currently set to conclude June, 2027. This role is dependent upon the continuation of this grant funding. If the funding is discontinued, the position will be eliminated.

- Manage, counsel and supervise an ongoing case load of juvenile clients.
- Prepare juvenile and family court reports for recommendations to judges for appropriate disposition of juveniles by conducting interviews with juveniles, parents, schools and other authorities, social agencies, and attorneys. Arrange for court presence of necessary witnesses and personally testify in court.
- Assure that offenders know and understand their legal rights and assist them to obtain legal representation as necessary.
- Compile, investigate, verify, and present reports on personal, social, educational, financial, health and prior criminal involvement of juvenile offenders.
- Prepare and present department's position dle non-adjudicated self-referrals.
- Communicate with Sheriff's Department, Police Departments, Prosecuting Attorney's Office, Probation Departments, and social service agencies on crime investigation, prevention, and casework services.
- Prepare and file necessary legal documents relating to probation case load including petitions, sealing of records and case reviews. Present reports to the Courts, Court Commissioners, Prosecuting Attorney, and other involved agencies and make recommendations on disposition of cases. Establish probable cause in accordance with the prosecutor's office and guiding criteria; establish plea bargains with offender prior to adjudication. Maintain regular contact with defense attorney and prosecutor's office.
- Provide required casework and liaison services for specialized caseloads including, but not limited to, Youth at Risk, CHINS, Truancy, deferred cases, SSODA and any other case management as required.
- As a team member, participate in the development of treatment plans and contracts to achieve behavior modification for assigned juveniles, coordinating with outside agencies such as schools, employers, mental health services, and community service work sites as appropriate. Arrange and monitor placement of individuals on probation in rehabilitation and/or treatment programs.
- Intervene in crisis situations; counsel families; communicate with involved community and private agencies; make referrals as required.
- Maintain accurate case files, program, and financial records and prepare correspondence and reports as required.
- Arrest probationers who are in violation and assist law enforcement agencies when requested.
- In accordance with established procedures, escort and assure custody of juveniles in transit to court appearances, hospital, or other required appointments as needed.
- Ensure the security of the detention facility by abiding by established policies and procedures.
- Perform courtesy investigations and monitoring for Probation Departments in other states or counties.
- Coordinate with Clallam County collection process and juvenile court in tracking collection of fines, fees, restitution, and detention financial obligations of parents.
- Participate in staff meetings regarding case discussions, approaches, and dispositions. Participate in other meetings, seminars, and conferences as required.
- Perform special projects and administrative assignments as developed and directed by management staff or the Director of Juvenile & Family Services.
- Assist the court by preparing and presenting presentence reports and pre-disposition recommendations.
