SMW Team Leader
The SMW Team Leader role is vital for the continued success of SMW. Each team leader is expected to be a working lead who also serves as the primary resource and contact for his/her area of expertise. The roles and responsibilities in this job description are intended to be guidelines and list essential skills required for team leader success.
Responsibilities- Serve as the first point of problem solving with confidence to know the appropriate level of involvement from others to reach successful resolution—“Solve at the appropriate level.”
- Be a champion of creative solutions from all persons utilizing formal and informal problem solving strategies.
- Avoid the “I can’t” attitude and set an example for turning “can’t” into “this is how we can overcome and succeed.”
- Look ahead and assess upcoming risks and gaps to safe and effective production.
- Understand, monitor, and participate in maintaining, gathering, and presenting productivity and utilization metrics.
- Maintain daily production schedules (DPS).
- Communicate clear and consistent information to all levels of the organization—small group to large audience; shop floor to senior management—including work assignments, productivity presentations, Tier 1, 2, 3 meetings, Kaizen/Improvement reports, and formal problem solving meetings.
- Provide meaningful technical guidance to operators.
- Perform/lead risk assessments before a team performs any non‑standard work or tasks using SMW's “First Things First” process.
- Actively promote and identify opportunities that improve departmental efficiency and cost.
- Champion, participate, and daily observe in Behavior Based Safety and Behavior Based Quality programs.
- Minimum one year of permanent employment with MPSA‑SMW.
- Proven record of stable and sustainable performance.
- Familiar with product flow and able to review and interpret component and assembly blueprints/drawings as well as bill of material.
- Employed only if no open disciplinary actions.
- Basic computer skills: SAP, work orders, router management, BOM/inventory information, MS Office, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, area‑specific software.
- Experience with FANUC controls and PLC/robot controls.
- Effective communication and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of: OSHA 10‑hour, conflict resolution, Lean/6S, leadership, human performance, and other relevant courses.
