This is a senior operational leadership role which oversees operations, manufacturing, production performance, people development, and continuous improvement.
As Senior Machine Shop Manager you will player a key role within operations and manufacturing and have overall responsibility for managing and leading a team to ensure the smooth workflow is achieved utilising labour and equipment effectively to efficiently produce a high-quality product delivered on time whilst complying to health and safety requirements.
As Senior Machine Shop Manager, you will demonstrate the ability to manage a team of fifty plus staff strong coaching and performance management skills.
You will take full ownership of a multi-discipline machine shop operation, managing production engineering, CNC machining, and manufacturing performance. You will be responsible for driving safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost performance while modernising processes and building a high-performance team culture.
Continuous improvement is paramount, so a thorough understanding of lean tools and how they link to KPI’s, using this information to proactively focus on driving the team.
Candidate Skills- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Proven experience of managing leading and CNC machines shop manufacturing operation.
Strong Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement background Strong Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement capability.
- Overall knowledge of machining processes, tooling, fixturing, and CAM
HNC / HND or higher in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Confident communicator with strong organisational and stakeholder management ability.

- Demonstrate experience of utilising continuous improvement tools and techniques such as VSM, SMED, TPM, Kaizen, 5S, Kanban and Error Proofing
- Ensure that all risk and COSHH assessments are in place.
- Proactively contribute to the overall strategy decisions, including budget planning, production improvement
- Lead and develop CNC machining and production engineering teams.
- Drive safety, quality, delivery, and productivity performance.
- Manage capital investment, equipment strategy, and technology adoption.
- Oversee new product introduction and design-for-manufacture activities.
- Implement Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement programmes.
- Optimise CNC programming, CAM usage, tooling, and fixturing strategies.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action programmes.
- Manage and drive introduction of new products working closely with production engineering and the machine shop and operations team
