Overview
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity within child and adolescent psychiatry? We are seeking a CAMHS Consultant to join the Poole team. The role provides leadership to a multidisciplinary team and involves clinical service leadership for patients aged up to 18 years. Referrals to community CAMHS are screened by the Gateway team before referral to Specialist CAMHS if appropriate. The post includes activities supporting both direct clinical contacts and service delivery.
You will work within the Poole core CAMHS team alongside a specialist doctor and a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive community-based services to young people up to 18 registered with GPs in the area. Flexible working is available; the role can be offered as full time or part time.

Main duties of the jobThis post attracts an enhanced recruitment and retention payment of £20,000 (two lump sums: £10,000 on appointment and £10,000 on the anniversary of the start date, subject to deductions). A relocation package of up to £10,000 is also available if you are moving to Dorset. The CAMHS consultant will work as part of an outreach focused multi-disciplinary mental health team and collaborate with Social Services, Education and other Trusts.
Participation in multi-disciplinary case conferences and reviews is expected as required by clinical needs and Trust policies.
A job plan will be developed by the Medical Lead for CAMHS with you and reviewed annually. You will have secretarial support and adequate administration time to facilitate timely circulation of written communication with clinicians, referrers and patients. You will be expected to maintain Section 12(2) and be an Approved Clinician.

Person SpecificationQualifications/Training
- Essential:
General medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) and Licence to Practise. - Essential: MRCPsych or recognised equivalent.
- Desirable:
Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. - Desirable:
Additional clinical qualification.
Eligibility
- Essential: CCT in Psychiatry or Specialist Register in Psychiatry within 6 months;
Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician approval or ability to obtain before starting. - Desirable:
Experience outside psychiatry (e.g., general practice, medicine).
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Essential:
Excellent knowledge in the specialty; evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement; strong bio-psycho-social approach; ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA; clear written and oral communication skills. - Desirable:
