A Domiciliary Care worker works as part of a team providing personal, domestic and social care at home to vulnerable individuals (including frail elderly, those with physical and learning disabilities and mental health) and their carers.
The various tasks to be performed by the domiciliary care worker may cover all or some of the following according to the individual needs of the client assessed by the appropriate professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Personal Care as specified on the care plan for the service user, including all aspects of personal hygiene (washing, shaving, showering, etc.)
- Assist service users with toileting, dressing/undressing and feeding
- Assist service users with mobility and transfer using any specialised equipment provided
- Administer prescribed medication, only as directed by a qualified medical practitioner under the direction of a supervisor
- Assist service users with therapeutic programmes as directed by relevant professionals
- Domestic Care: maintain cleanliness of the service user’s home to ensure a safe environment in accordance with health and safety requirements
- When directed by the supervisor, prepare meals, light fires, attend to laundry, and ensure a safe and hygienic environment
- Social Care: actively encourage service users to participate in daily activities as per their capabilities in the care plan, and to listen and provide support to individual clients and carers
- Manage affairs under direction of supervisor (e.g., collecting benefits, shopping)
- Collaborate with other personnel involved in the care of the service user (G.Ps, nurses, social workers, etc.)
- Maintain accurate and reliable information recorded in line with NGCC policies and procedures
- Relevant administration (completion of timesheets, incident forms, activity sheets, etc.)
- Attend meetings (staff, assessment, team)
- Adhere to and ensure safe practice according to health and safety procedures
- Any other appropriate duties as directed by the Care Coordinator
The confidentiality of the client must be maintained at all times.
To comply with training and development requirements set out by NGCC Services.
Participate in Induction programme, attend in-service training and update mandatory training when required.
To adhere to the Health and Safety policy and procedures set out by NGCC (Domiciliary Care Regulations, National Minimum Standards and Health and Safety at Work Act, etc.).
The Domiciliary care worker must always liaise closely with the Supervisor, reporting any significant or unusual changes (accidents, incidents or illness, etc.).
