This Production Engineer role sits at the centre of manufacturing improvement, working across engineering, quality, supply chain and operations to support new product introduction, improve production processes, and drive efficiency on existing builds.
The Production Engineer role offers a strong mix of hands-on manufacturing support, continuous improvement, and project-based activity. For more experienced candidates, the role can include broader ownership of priorities, technical direction, and support for team activity across Production Engineering.
The Production Engineer role
As a Production Engineer, you’ll be responsible for implementing and improving production processes and procedures, supporting productivity improvements, and helping ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing.
You’ll work across new and existing products, supporting NPI, process development, tooling/fixture improvements, standardisation, and technical problem-solving. Depending on your level, the Production Engineer role can also include greater involvement in reviewing team priorities, supporting wider production engineering activities, and acting as a more senior technical point of contact.
Day-to-day responsibilities of a Production Engineer
Support implementation and improvement of production processes and procedures
Ensure design for manufacture is achieved during new product introduction
Identify manufacturing needs for new products in development
Support systems and processes for new product introduction (NPI)
Design or support the development of systems, methods and processes for cost-effective manufacture
Design or review fixtures and tooling for assembly tasks
Reduce process variability through standard work methods and work instructions
Carry out and/or support PFMEAs, process documentation and implementation of improvements
Support error-proofing (Poka Yoke) activity where possible
Investigate production and process issues, providing technical support and training
Perform root cause analysis and support timely resolution of manufacturing problems
Work with production and cross-functional teams to improve quality, cost and delivery
Contribute to continuous improvement and process improvement activities
Support special projects as required
At higher level, support prioritisation of work and broader Production Engineering team activity
What they’re looking for - Production Engineer
Background in production engineering, manufacturing engineering, assembly/process engineering, or similar
Understanding of manufacturing processes in a complex engineering environment
Experience supporting process improvement, problem-solving, and production issue resolution
Understanding of lean manufacturing principles
Experience with PFMEA / process documentation / standard work methods (or strong exposure)
Understanding of quality, waste reduction, downtime, scrap and rework drivers
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a logical, practical approach
CAD capability (e.g. Solid Works / CREO) and good PC/software skills
Good communication skills across shop floor and wider stakeholders
Understanding of Health & Safety practices
Relevant engineering/manufacturing qualification preferred (HND, degree or equivalent experience considered)
Eligibility to obtain SC Clearance
