We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team at a alternative provision supporting pupils who require a more personalised and therapeutic approach to education.

This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning, develop positive behaviours and re-engage with education.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who may display challenging behaviour due to social, emotional or mental health needs (SEMH). You will support students both in and out of the classroom, helping them to regulate emotions, develop positive coping strategies and access learning in a safe and supportive environment.

You will work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals to implement behaviour support strategies and contribute to creating a calm, structured and nurturing setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide consistent behaviour and emotional support to pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Support pupils to engage positively with learning and manage their behaviour effectively
  • Implement behaviour support plans and de-escalation strategies
  • Promote positive relationships, emotional regulation and social skills
  • Support teaching staff during lessons and structured activities
  • Monitor, record and report on pupil progress and behaviour
  • Maintain clear, professional boundaries while building trusted relationships
  • Ensure safeguarding, wellbeing and health & safety procedures are followed at all times
About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs or additional needs (education, care, youth work or similar settings)
  • Is calm, resilient and patient, with the ability to remain composed in challenging situations
  • Has strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Believes in a restorative, trauma-informed and child-centred approach
  • Is flexible, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing

Previous experience in a PRU, alternative provision, special school, youth work, care or mentoring role would be highly desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
