Join Our Team at NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee. Position:
Associate Medical Director x 3 (NWJCC) – Neurosciences, Cardiac and Mental Health. Following the establishment of the NWJCC on 1 April 2024 and an organisational restructure, we are seeking three Associate Medical Directors to support our journey as a newly formed organisation.

The NWJCC is a joint committee of the seven health boards in Wales, with a Chair and Lay Members. We support collaborative commissioning across Wales, with around 120 staff based in Mold and Nantgarw/Treforest.

Our mission is to be The Centre of Excellence for Collaborative Commissioning, improving health and care outcomes across Wales. We commission around 220 services, including NHS 111, ambulance services, specialised rare disease services, and mental health, operating a £1.14bn budget.

Main duties of the job

A strategic senior leader to shape the national commissioning of specialist services in Wales, delivered through the Joint Commissioning Committee (JCC).

Embed specialist knowledge and intelligence into commissioning decisions, helping to shape services that make a real difference across Wales.

Increase commissioner engagement with specialist neuroscience clinical teams across Wales, with a focus on supporting services to deliver improved outcomes for patients, and effective working arrangements for staff.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Qualified medical professional
  • Unblemished registration with the GMC
  • Evidence of continued professional development, meeting minimum CPD requirements from a recognised body
  • Evidence of management training and a commitment to ongoing professional development
Experience
  • Must be or have been a practicing GP or worked at Medical Consultant level
  • Substantial senior-level experience in leadership and practice
  • Successful initiation and facilitation of strategic partnership working and alliances
  • Experience of collaborative working with senior clinicians and system leaders across the NHS
  • Significant organisational change experience / managing difficult and complex change
  • Good knowledge and understanding of national targets
  • A track record of achievement in effective performance management and introducing robust systems and processes
