Do you enjoy being at the center of courtroom activity and ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes? As a Judicial Court Clerk, you will play a vital role in supporting judges, attorneys, and the public in the daily operation of the Circuit Court. From managing legal documents and maintaining courtroom decorum to recording proceedings and coordinating virtual hearings, you’ll help keep the wheels of justice turning.

Annual Salary: $51,879 - $69,508

Minimum QualificationsThis is an appointed position within Oakland County.
What You’ll Do- Prepare, review, and process legal documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with court rules.
- Open and close the courtroom, operate video conferencing and recording systems, and maintain order during proceedings.
- Administer oaths, swear in witnesses and jurors, and assist the judge with courtroom operations.
- Enter official court records into the case management system and document daily court proceedings.
- Play a key role in ensuring that courtroom proceedings run efficiently and professionally.
- Gain valuable knowledge of legal processes, courtroom procedures, and judicial operations.
- Work closely with judges, attorneys, and court staff in a dynamic and respected environment.
- Contribute to the fair and timely administration of justice through accuracy and attention to detail.
Ensures the courtroom operates efficiently by checking in parties, creating a list of waiting parties, and prioritizing caseflow ensuring all necessary parties are present to proceed. Declares the official opening and closing of court sessions and calls cases in court by stating the name and number of the case. This may occur in person, through video conferencing, or as a hybrid of both.
Assists the judge by administering oaths to jury members and witnesses, schedules hearings, processes adjournment requests, and retrieves legal files and documents. Maintains order and decorum in the courtroom among family members, spectators, and respondents by providing guidance in proper courtroom procedures and assisting in the removal of disruptive persons. Assists with the impaneling of juries by drawing the names of jurors to be seated for trial cases from the jury selection box.
Asks for Foreperson of the jury to rise and pronounce the verdict rendered, polls each jury member for his/her verdict, as appropriate, and records the verdict, following legal procedure. Performs special liaison assignments for the judge upon request, including the notification of attorneys, court personnel and respondents regarding the judge's requirements and decisions. Operates the Court recording systems to capture official record.
Maintains log files of events. Obtains legal documents, books, and statutes as requested by the judge. Prepares orders after court hearings as directed by the judge, retrieves and processes filings in digital and paper formats. Operates a computer terminal, as requested, to enter or retrieve information relative to particular cases. Ensures all the necessary legal documents pertaining to a court case have been properly filed.
