Oakland County Health Division is seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our public health laboratory team. In this role, you’ll perform high-complexity laboratory testing that directly supports disease surveillance, outbreak response, environmental health, and community protection. This position is ideal for a certified MT/MLS professional who values precision, quality, and the opportunity to contribute to public health preparedness and response, including pandemic and bioterrorism readiness.

What

You’ll Do

Under general supervision and in accordance with CLIA and laboratory policies, you will:

  • Perform high-complexity laboratory testing authorized by the Laboratory Director
  • Follow established procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting, and documentation
  • Accurately perform testing across multiple laboratory disciplines, including:
  • Molecular diagnostics
  • Serology
  • Chemistry and toxicology
  • Microbiology
  • Environmental laboratory analysis
  • Conduct and successfully complete CLIA Proficiency Testing
  • Adhere to laboratory Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) policies
  • Document QC activities, analyzer maintenance, calibrations, and corrective actions
  • Identify testing or instrumentation issues and independently resolve them or escalate to the Laboratory Supervisor
  • Utilize Countywide and department-specific laboratory information and data systems
  • Provide instruction and oversight to laboratory interns and students

Minimum Qualifications

Experience, Training, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Note:

    Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.
  • Be board Certified as MT or MLS from ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists).
  • a. Successfully completed a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Internship within the last five years; OR
  • Have had two (2) years of full-time work experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
  • Successfully complete the six-month probationary period.

Supervision Exercised

Provides instruction and oversight to the laboratory's interns and students.
