Production Superintendent

Position Summary

The Production Superintendent is responsible for directing and coordinating plant production activities to ensure the efficient manufacture of high-quality, food-safe products. This role ensures production targets are met while maintaining strict compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards. The position plays a critical leadership role on second shift, driving operational performance, supervising leadership staff, and promoting continuous improvement across the production floor.

• Direct daily production operations to meet customer requirements and shipment schedules.
• Monitor production output, efficiency, and inventory levels to ensure performance targets are achieved (minimum 93% efficiency goal).
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by enforcing safety policies, conducting inspections, supporting safety audits, and ensuring corrective actions are completed.
• Ensure compliance with all USDA and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Supervise, coach, and develop production supervisors; provide leadership training and support for new processes or equipment.
• Plan and allocate labor, equipment, and production capacity to optimize efficiency and minimize waste.
• Partner with maintenance to maximize equipment uptime and productivity.
• Participate in budgeting, capital expenditure planning, manpower forecasting, and space utilization planning.
• Review daily production reports and communicate performance feedback to supervisors and cross-functional teams.
• Facilitate effective communication between shifts to ensure continuity of quality, safety, and productivity.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on waste reduction, cost control, and operational excellence.

• Bachelor’s degree in Meat Science, Business, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of three years of progressive managerial experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Minimum of four years of leadership experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Experience leading teams in food manufacturing strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of food safety standards and regulatory compliance; USDA experience highly valued.
• Strong organizational and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to coordinate across departments and shifts.

• Experience in protein or meat processing environments.
• Familiarity with food service production standards.
• Experience with budgeting and capital planning.
• Proven track record of implementing process improvements and waste reduction programs.

• Primary work environment is the production floor, including exposure to loud noise, strong odors, refrigerated and freezer conditions, and hot/cold temperatures.
• Extended periods of standing and walking.
• Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
• Use of personal protective equipment including hearing protection and safety glasses as required.

• Must be willing and able to work 2nd shift (4:00 PM – 2:00 AM).
