Position: Community Services Specialist I – After School & Sports

Overview

Join our Community Services Department as a Community Services Specialist I. This part-time, hourly position averages 20 hours per week, with total hours not exceeding 1,000 in a 12-month period. This position is at-will.

Available programs for part-time staff

After School Programs:

  • Role:
    Oversee after-school sites or program areas, ensuring program goals and community needs are met.
  • Schedule:

    During the school year, programs operate Monday–Friday, approximately 1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m., at park-based centers and include enrichment, sports, and outdoor activities. In the summer, after-school programs pause and staff transition to summer camps with similar enrichment and recreational programming.

Sports Programs:

  • Role:
    Supervise youth sports leagues, clinics, and outdoor activities.
  • Typical Schedule:

    Monday to Friday, 1:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.

Work Hours

Work hours will be approximately 15–20 hours per week. Typically Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Some weekends and evening shifts may be required.

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical path to obtain these knowledge, skills, and abilities would include:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalency required.
  • One (1) year of paid or volunteer experience in a recreational field or tutoring, or a combination of both. College students in fields such as Kinesiology, math, science, and language arts are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and have a good driving record.

  • Assist in opening and closing and cleanup of City facilities; ensure facilities are secure upon closing if applicable.
  • Respond to the public; answer inquiries and provide information pertaining to programs offered.
  • Interact with co-workers at all levels of the City of Pomona and the public in a collaborative and customer service-oriented manner.
  • This position may perform other related duties as assigned.
