Under the supervision of the Director of Medical Services, the Community Clinic Veterinarian will be responsible for examining and treating owned pets from the community.

With a staff of highly recognized animal control and humane officers, Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. (IVHS & SPCA) answers the call of thousands of animals in need every year. With our community outreach programs we educate the public on the humane treatment of animals including local wildlife, proper pet care and how to be a responsible pet owner. Equally important is IVHS & SPCA’s commitment to provide affordable veterinary care with low-cost vaccination clinic, low-cost spay and neuter programs, and microchipping for pets in our communities.

IVHS is opening a state-of-the-art medical center this fall and is expanding its community clinic for the communities served by our shelter.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Examines owned animals, comes up with appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans and effectively communicates these options and plans with the animal owner Ensures compliance with veterinary medical standards, practices, and procedures
  • Provides proper care for animals under hospitalized veterinary care
  • Communicates and educates the RVTs, veterinary assistants, animal control officers and animal care technicians with relevant medical knowledge
  • Assists with training of veterinary students
  • Provides support to management and personnel to ensure an effective work environment
  • Participates in off-site community outreach program that looks to connect and help the underserved population with access to veterinary care
  • May provide medical oversight and support for animal cruelty investigations, including any necessary reports related to the condition and treatment of animals in protective custody
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation with a degree in Veterinary Medicine
  • Must possess valid State of California Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent license, in good standing and State of California Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license
  • No felony convictions or convictions of driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Valid California Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, and a good driving record
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen

    Demonstrate compassion when working with animals and their owners. Treat animals with kindness and respect and must be sensitive when dealing with the owners of sick pets.

    Ability to explain and offer best treatment options for injuries and illnesses of animals, while also being able to modify treatment plans that align with the owner’s financial ability.

    Strong communication skills, to be able to discuss recommendations and explain treatment options to animal owners and give instructions to staff.

    Ability to direct team of technicians. Providing direction, delegating work, and overseeing daily operations.

    Requires strong problem-solving skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Extensive direct handling, carrying and restraining of animals, both large and small, and carrying of supplies and equipment
  • Extensive walking, standing, stooping, bending and carrying
  • Ability to read and write handwritten and typewritten documents and records
