The City of Pomona seeks a visionary and community-driven leader to serve as its founding Children and Youth Services Director and help shape one of California's most forward-looking municipal youth departments.
In November 2024, Pomona voters approved the "Pomona Kids First" initiative, establishing a dedicated fund for children and youth programs and authorizing the creation of a new Department of Children and Youth Services. The Director will turn this bold vision into reality.
This position offers an opportunity to lead systems change at the city level, with dedicated funding, community backing, and the chance to redefine how municipalities invest in their youngest residents.
- Design, build, and launch a new City department focused on children and youth services.
- Develop and implement the strategic plan translating new initiatives into measurable community outcomes.
- Establish and facilitate a 15-member youth governance board to guide departmental priorities.
- Oversee the allocation of approximately $9 million annually in youth-focused programming and services.
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a diverse founding team dedicated to innovation and equity.
- Pomona is a vibrant, diverse city with a strong tradition of community engagement and a commitment to innovation in local governance.
- The City's voter-backed Measure Y provides a sustainable and community-controlled funding source for children and youth programming.
- The Director will report directly to the City Manager, positioning this department at the highest levels of city leadership.
The salary range for this position is $170,419 - $228,378. The City of Pomona offers its employees a comprehensive benefits package consisting of medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; disability insurance; retirement; and various voluntary plans.
