. Become a System Planning Tools Engineer 2 at Southern California Edison (SCE) and help build a better tomorrow. In this role, you will shape the future of the electric grid by transforming complex planning data into actionable insights that support long term system decisions. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and advisors to gather and validate critical inputs, design and implement automation that enhances System Planning, Grid Planning, and Internal Energization workflows, and develop accurate forecast models and clear visualizations that reveal emerging system needs.
You will also contribute to the design and construction of a new generation of planning tools, including data pipelines, analytics models, and application interfaces that improve planner productivity and decision quality. This work contributes to SCE’s Integrated Grid Planning and Execution (IGPE) initiative by supporting the integration of distribution and transmission planning into a streamlined, data-driven process. A strong foundation in System Planning and the ability to write efficient code in Python and create robust database scripts in SQL will be essential, along with a commitment to learning quickly and applying sound engineering practices.

- Performs inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification/troubleshooting, and overall improvements
- Ensures system event assessments and RCA are performed for equipment failures and implements corrective actions, confirming proper mitigation plans are in place
- Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and design plans related to projects and analysis of increasing scope and complexity
- Conducts independent engineering work, receiving guidance on the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
- Performs power system modeling and analyses utilizing software tools and applications; stays informed of technology advancements, market trends, and relevant guidelines and standards related to energy technology
- Ensures the performance of day to day preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment and ensure continued operation according to required standards
- Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) quality and environmental and reliability standards
- Helps ensure infrastructures supporting processes are validated/qualified throughout their life cycle
- Develops the engineering facility design, including but not limited to electrical system design, such as sizing, creating one-line diagrams, and selecting equipment
- Assists in the development of new technology and standards strategy and the implementation of strategies into business operations to improve power system functionality and quality of service to customers
- Act as project sponsors with some technical assistance when responding to technical questions requiring project modification to move projects through their lifecycle
- A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in a scientific/technical/math field
- Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments
