General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our customers have a positive shopping experience. The associate greets all customers courteously, treats fellow associates with respect, follows all company best‑practice standards in every work area, maintains a clean work area at all times, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The associate is expected to be engaged in all tasks assigned during working hours and may be requested to perform additional tasks as needed to meet customer service and operational goals.

Functions

  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone.
  • Treat all customers and associates with respect and courtesy; remain friendly, professional, and courteous at all times.
  • Assist customers in any way necessary, including register training, product assistance, and answering questions politely and knowledgeably.
  • Provide prompt and efficient responses to customers at all times and handle all customer issues courteously and helpfully.
  • Represent and support the company brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, and disinfecting high‑touch areas to keep merchandise, customer, and team areas well maintained.
  • Perform daily assigned sizing and recovery per company best practice to ensure a neat, clean, and organized store.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise receipts to the sales floor with urgency, merchandising all items per company best practice to monthly presentation guidelines.
  • Understand loss prevention, the Shortage Highway, and the store protection specialist (SPS) position where applicable, and follow merchandise protection standards.
  • Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions, safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.
  • Follow all mark‑out‑of‑stock (MOS) policies, properly process each piece, and notify store leadership to review and approve all disposals.
  • Follow all cash and transaction policies, maintain a high level of awareness and accuracy when handling bankable tenders.
  • Demonstrate urgency to efficiently perform duties, maximizing productivity by executing all store best practices and minimizing steps and touches in workflow.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative, and pleasant manner. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
  • Spend 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
  • Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
  • Certain assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.
  • Stockroom shifts: regularly push, pull, and lift more than 20 pounds.
