Job Description
ECS is seeking a Systems Engineer II (Virtualization Engineer) VDI to work in our Pocatello, office.
The Contractor shall be responsible for engineering all VDI design, deployment, and maintenance of VDI systems and components within the FBI. The Contractor shall install, patch, upgrade, update, and document the current environments, design, document and deploy upgrades, and provide on-site expertise for both Citrix and VMware VDI environments currently in use by the FBI.
Position requirements and duties of the Systems Engineer II (Virtualization Engineer) VDI- Proactively address performance and anticipated user requirements.
- Support both a Windows and Linux mixed environment.
- Hands‑on experience in implementing and supporting Citrix Xen Desktop, VMware vSphere, Hypervisor Management, Active Directory, GPO Management, and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Deployments.
- Design overall VDI solutions, conduct planning, requirements analysis, pre‑ and post‑implementation support, training, and maintenance.
- Ensure the client’s performance, security, user experience, reliability, availability, and all other functional and non‑functional requirements are met.
- Maintain system documentation.
- Assist with system accreditation and monitoring.
- Engineer, deploy and O&M the Microsoft operating system baseline images for use on all FBI enterprise endpoints; images must meet DISA STIG and internal FBI Security recommendations. Incremental baseline releases are due quarterly, NLT the 15th of each month (January, April, July, and October).
- Provide engineering, deployment, and transition to O&M services for a broad range of current and future Microsoft applications and technologies, including Microsoft End Point Configuration Manager (MECM), Microsoft System Center Software Portal (MSCSP), and Microsoft Office products.
- Create automation scripts and deploy orchestration and automation processes to support the FBI’s VDI, workstation, and Controlled Interface environments; goal is reduced spin‑up/spin‑down times, standardized deployments, business process automation, self‑service portals, user experience enhancements, automated patching, and maintenance.
- Engineer, deploy and O&M hyper‑converged server and storage solutions for the FBI’s VDI environments; current technologies include Nutanix, Dell, and VMware.
- Engineer, deploy and O&M enterprise server virtualization solutions supporting the FBI’s VDI, print, application, and OS delivery environments; current technologies include VMware and Hyper‑V.
- Maintain up‑to‑date technical documentation for all systems, including inventory and patch levels, hostnames, property numbers, IP addresses, enclave, number of cores, processors, admin passwords, certificates, and service accounts on a monthly interval.
- Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
- Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes.
- Maintain security, recovery, and redundancy strategies.
- Participate in the design of information and operational support systems.
- Provide 3rd level support.
- Install, configure, test, and maintain system management tools for all data center network components.
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
- Provide real‑time alerts and dashboard information on system performance and availability.
- Document system configurations to include passwords, access controls, version numbers, and revision numbers, patch levels, and inventory details.
- Must have a current Top‑Secret Clearance with the capability of obtaining SCI / CI‑Poly.
- Six or more years of relevant experience designing and implementing virtual platforms for desktop, applications, and server virtualization solutions.
- Preferred certifications:
Citrix Certified Associate – Virtualization (CCA‑V), VMware Certified Professional – Desktop Management (VCP‑DTM), Nutanix Certified Professional – Multicloud Infrastructure (NCP‑MCI), or equivalent professional level desktop virtualization vendor certification.
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
