Overview
To perform a variety of professional and supervisory duties as needed to manage misdemeanor high risk domestic violence population probation cases. Works in conjunction with the current domestic violence probation officer and under the supervision of the Bannock County Court Services Director; however, considerable latitude is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.
Responsibilities- Perform a variety of duties to manage misdemeanor high risk domestic violence probation cases, in conjunction with the domestic violence probation officer and under the supervision of the Bannock County Court Services Director.
- Conduct home and employment checks, electronic monitoring, participation in high risk team meetings and sentencing, meet with clients to provide instruction for life skills, and administer LS I assessments to determine contact/supervision status (Low, Medium, or High) and strengthen probation programs.
- Review terms and conditions with clients and complete documentation; maintain records of all contacts with defendants; prepare monthly or periodic statistical reports and track statistics for grants.
- Establish and maintain contact with key individuals involved in cases and case compliance (detectives, narcotic investigators, attorneys, judges, parents, spouses, service providers, supervisors, county and state agencies, the public, co-workers, counselors, and treatment providers).
- Coordinate with various agencies, provide agencies with copies of documentation, orders, and related materials; perform follow-up as needed to ensure client contact compliance; set up and verify community service obligations; issue affidavits as requested by judges for probation violations.
- Perform field activities to determine client compliance with probation terms, including GPS ankle monitoring, home searches (accompanied by a deputy sheriff or police officer), and drug and BAC testing.
- Attend review hearings; may be required to attend court and provide testimony regarding probation violations; assist in preparing monthly reports showing case activity.
- Position may not include all duties listed, nor do the examples cover all duties to be performed. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in social work, law enforcement, criminology and/or
- Two years of experience performing above or court-related duties and/or domestic violence experience and/or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills And Abilities
Some knowledge of complex and technical filing systems relating to the county probation case management; procedures related to a variety of court processes; laws governing probation compliance and sanctions; basic bookkeeping, basic mathematics, interpersonal communications and public relations; related legal terms and definitions. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; operate a variety of types of office machines; personal computer or terminal operation;
develop effective working relationships with elected officials, judges, legal professionals, peers, and the public.
- Must possess a valid Idaho driver's license
- Must be able to qualify for security clearance which includes criminal and financial background check
- Must obtain or be POST certified as a misdemeanor probation officer within one year of hire date
- May have no prior felony convictions and must submit to an extensive criminal history background check to be eligible to attend POST Academy training
