The Lead Nurse plays a key role in delivering high quality patient care and leading the nurses within the practice. The post holder provides clinical leadership and oversight of nurses, supports the development and implementation of protocols, leads quality improvement initiatives. They are responsible for managing, developing, and supporting the nurses to ensure services meet professional standards and achieve positive outcomes.
This role requires clinical expertise alongside effective leadership skills to coordinate daily nursing activities. The Nurse lead works closely with GPs and the wider team to integrate nursing services across the practice, ensuring patient safety, best practice, and high standards of care. The role includes direct patient care, clinical duties, and administrative responsibilities, supporting a holistic and patient-centred approach. The post holder is also responsible for ensuring compliance with infection prevention and control and cold chain requirements.
The Practice aims to provide a primary base to support continuity and strong patient-clinician relationships. However, flexibility is essential, and the post holder may be required to work across branch sites on a temporary or permanent basis. Core hours are 8am6:30pm Monday to Friday, with extended hours until 8pm on weekdays and 8am4pm on Saturdays. The post holder must be willing to work across core and extended hours as required, with preferences considered where possible.
Mainduties of the job
The Nurse Lead provides clinical and operational leadership to the nursing team, overseeing recruitment, rota management, performance, and professional development to maintain high standards of care. They ensure effective clinical governance, compliance with health and safety, infection prevention and control, clinical audit requirements, and all nurse-related regulatory obligations. The post holder also leads the development, review, and implementation of nursing policies and protocols in line with best practice.
The role includes delivering specialist nursing care, particularly in chronic disease management, urgent care, and preventative health. The Nurse Lead supports patient flow and care coordination, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to optimise outcomes. They also lead health promotion initiatives, educating patients on disease prevention and healthy lifestyles.

The Practice aims to provide a primary site for the post holder to work from fostering stability and a strong patient clinician relationship. However flexibility is required and the post holder must be willing to work at other branch sites when necessary either on a temporary or permanent basis. Practice core hours are monday to friday with extended hours on weekdays and saturday.
The post holder must be willing to work their contractual hours during both core and extended hours although the Practice will consider their preferences
