Position: Consultant Psychiatrist within Intellectual Disabilities (9 PAs)

Job Summary

We are seeking to appoint a substantive Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Community Learning Disabilities Team in Plymouth. This is a parttime post - 9 PAs, inclusive of on-call - that will work alongside the existing fulltime Consultant. The post holder will be expected to participate in the consultant on-call rota, which is currently 1 in 14.

Main duties of the job

The Community Learning Disabilities Team is a dynamic, enthusiastic team that is committed to improving the lives of people with learning disabilities in Plymouth. The team is built on the vision to empower people with a learning disability to have a good quality of life and to value ourselves and the people we support. There is a single team for the city, delivering integrated health and social care, with a focus on evidence-based, high-quality care in the community.

The postholder will complement the established fulltime Consultant and form part of a well-developed and continually evolving Community Learning Disabilities Team, supported by a full range of MDT professionals. The team regularly hosts both core and higher psychiatry trainees. The successful candidate will contribute to the senior leadership of the community team, including service development, quality improvement initiatives relevant to their clinical role, and teaching and training activities.

There is also the opportunity to participate in research for those with an interest. Based at Westbourne, Scott Business Park in Plymouth, the post holder will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment, and ongoing care for adults with a learning disability living within the catchment area and eligible for community services.
