We are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to join our team of Clinical

Technologists as a Deputy Radiopharmacy Production Manager delivering the Nuclear Medicine service at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

The post holder will assist with the management of the radiopharmacy in order to comply with the Medicines Act 1968, EU Good Manufacturing Practice andEU Directive 2001/83/EC under a Manufacturer's Specials License issued by the Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA.)

The Nuclear Medicine department at UHP offers the broadest range of any department within the South-West. It is a tertiary referral centre for specialist examinations and performs approximately 6,500 examinations of 60 different types each year for both inpatients and outpatients. Research and development is also undertaken at local, national and international levels.

The department consists of 2 consultants, 12 technologists, 3 physicists and an administrative team.

The department carries out a wide range of imaging and non-imaging diagnostic studies as well as some therapy procedures. There is an integrated radiopharmacy for the manufacture of short-lived radiopharmaceuticals and dispensing of intravenous injections which operates under a MHRA specials licence.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in the Nuclear Medicine department taking responsibility for the day-to-day radiopharmacy management tasks and technical and professional support in all aspects of radiopharmaceutical production. In addition to the radiopharmacy role the post holder will also work as a Clinical Technologist within the department maintaining their clinical skills.

Job responsibilities

Taking responsibility for day to day radiopharmacy management tasks

  • Technical and professional support in all aspects of radiopharmaceutical production
  • Teaching and assessing other staff and students working in the unit
  • Ensuring that all staff working in the radiopharmacy are up to date with validations
  • Problem solving technical issues in association with the RPM and RQM
  • Taking responsibility for radiopharmacy production in the absence of the RPM
  • Assist the RPM with organising equipment service and maintenance and liaising with company representatives remotely and on site
  • Assist the RPM with radio chemical purity testing when required.
  • Support and assist the RPM with stock control and ordering and sourcing radiopharmacy consumables.
  • Assisting the RPM and RQM to ensure that the service meets the needs of the Trust and optimises the use of assets
  • Assisting the RPM in the evaluation, purchase and installation of equipment
  • Assisting the RPM and RQM to develop the service
  • Maintaining own knowledge of compliance and EU/UK legislation
  • Assisting the RPM with risk assessments, audits and validations
  • Assisting the RPM and RQM in the generation and review of Standard Operating Procedures and other documentation critical to the delivery of the service
  • Troubleshoot and assist in the maintenance/use of SPECTra, Isostock, and all IT systems

Person Specification Qualifications
  • BSc in Clinical Technology, Radiography or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable and robust evidence of a commitment to CPD
  • Specialist Course in the Aseptic Preparation/Dispensing of Medicines Course (Leeds) or equivalent.
  • HPC Registration or Registered with RCT.
  • MSc in Nuclear Medicine or equivalent level of knowledge or experience
