Yourfuture role
The role comprises working as part of a team of Fleet Maintenance Engineers at Laira Train Maintenance Depot in Plymouth providing technical support to our Train Operator and Maintainer customer (Great Western Railway) to deliver a safe reliable and cost‑efficient fleet of Class 175 rail vehicles. This position reports directly to Alstom’s Fleet Maintenance Lead Engineer for the Class 175 fleet.
Well look to you for :- Developing and delivering engineering changes to improve fleet / system reliability performance, reduce the cost of maintenance and deliver customer variation solutions.
- Identifying and implementing safe cost‑effective containments and countermeasures to identified product safety issues.
- Planning and delivering readiness (including BoMs work instructions and configuration) for planned maintenance activities as defined by the Vehicle Maintenance Instruction.
- Ensuring that the specified fleet maintenance regime is certificated, adhered to and complies with all relevant legislation and that associated limitations are effectively managed.
- Using engineering knowledge, problem‑solving skills, standard project management techniques and awareness of standards and the constraints of the delivery organisation to support, justify and manage changes.
- Supporting depot operations teams in resolving emerging fleet issues including the requirement to undertake out‑of‑hours duties if required.

- Ideally educated to Degree or Higher Certificate level in an engineering / technical discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it.
- Experience in a similar role.
- Strong engineering / technical knowledge of traction and rolling stock systems and maintenance policies / practices.
- Strong project management and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong business and commercial acumen.
- Experience in problem‑solving techniques.
- Experience in a fleet maintenance or asset management environment.
- Experience in delivering rail vehicle engineering change including risk assessments and approvals.
- Experience of depot operations.
- Computer literate (MS Office, Teams, Project, Maximo, SAP etc.).
- Knowledge of rail industry legislation, standards and safety case obligations.
