Empower Plymouth, England, United Kingdom – Temporary Works Engineer
We are working on the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth and are seeking an experienced Temporary Works Coordinator. Joining the design/engineering team, you will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of Temporary Works on one of the major projects ongoing in the dockyard. Due to the sensitive nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required and the clearance process can take up to 8 weeks.
EligibilityCriteria
Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years. Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Temporary Works Coordinator on heavy civil/construction projects is required, preferably with experience in the nuclear sector.
Responsibilities- Report to the Lead TWC / Temporary Works Manager
- Coordinate Temporary Works between site teams and designers
- Review Temporary Works design briefs prepared by site teams to ensure suitability for issue to the project’s Temporary Works Design teams and manage the submission process
- Manage Temporary Works through the full design preparation and checking processes in accordance with applicable procedures and client requirements
- Oversee Temporary Works design submissions through their full life‑cycle to client approval, implementation, use, and dismantling
- Liaise with in‑house, supply chain, and external design consultants simultaneously
- Ensure site implementation of Temporary Works complies with approved and checked designs; conduct site inspections and issue TW permits
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHE) policies and management system requirements
- Maintain awareness of SHE hazards and associated risks, committing to eliminate or minimise them
- Understand and effectively undertake SHE accountabilities
- Manage and coordinate Temporary Works Supervisors
- Comply with commercial processes
- Degree qualification in civil engineering or equivalent (BSc, BA, BEng, MEng, Eng Tech, MICE, TIStruct
E, or Higher Apprenticeship completion) - Consideration for those working towards Chartership / Incorporation with IStruct
E, ICE or other appropriate professional bodies - Experience overseeing reinforced concrete, formwork, and falsework Temporary Works schemes as a TWC or part of a TWS
- Preferably experience in design and/or engineering management
- Strong working knowledge of Temporary Works Management procedures
- Experience delivering major infrastructure projects
- Awareness of commercial processes
- Knowledge or experience with structural steel building construction is useful
