Are you an experienced Learning Coach who thrives in a fast-paced, rewarding environment where every day is about making a real difference?
We’re recruiting for a Learning Coach to join a specialist alternative education provision in Plymouth, supporting pupils with SEMH needs both on-site and through outreach placements across the local community.
This role is ideal for someone confident working with young people who may be disengaged from mainstream education and need a calm, consistent adult to help rebuild routines, trust and progress.
The Role Includes:
✅ Supporting students with SEMH, behaviour needs, anxiety and emotional regulation
✅ Working 1:1 and in small groups to promote engagement and attendance
✅ Delivering structured support both in provision and through outreach work
✅ Supporting positive behaviour strategies, boundaries and de-escalation
✅ Helping young people develop confidence, resilience, and independence
✅ Transporting students as part of outreach responsibilities (own vehicle required)
About the Setting:
This is a specialist alternative provision environment, supporting children and young people who have often experienced barriers to learning in mainstream education.
Students may have faced challenges such as:
emotional and behavioural needs
trauma, anxiety, and low self-esteem
disrupted education, exclusions or school avoidance
difficulty managing routines, boundaries, or peer relationships
The setting offers a more personalised and nurturing approach, with smaller groups, consistent staffing, and a focus on re-engagement, emotional development, and positive long-term outcomes.
Staff work closely as a team to provide structure, safety and stability — and celebrate progress in the small wins as well as the big ones.
What We’re Looking For:
⭐ Proven experience supporting pupils with SEMH / behaviour needs
⭐ Calm, resilient and confident approach to working with challenging behaviour
⭐ Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to set boundaries
⭐ Access to your own vehicle (driving is required for outreach)
⭐ DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
