Job Summary
A new and exciting opportunity to join Plymouth Community Dental Services (PCDS) on a casual (bank) arrangement. PCDS is one of the largest specialist‑led NHS dental providers in Plymouth, delivering high‑quality care to patients who are unable to access treatment through a general dental practice. This role offers flexible weekday evenings (18:00‑21:00), no minimum or maximum session count, and modern surgeries with generous appointment times (40 min).
All indemnity is covered by PCDS.

Job Description – Core Responsibilities
- Provide urgent dental care to patients unable to access GP dental services, following a triage process.
- Undertake comprehensive assessments,, and treatment plans, including necessary investigations.
- Deliver treatment within the allocated appointment when possible, or arrange appropriate referrals.
- Maintain high‑quality digital records contemporaneously.
- Provide immediate care in medical emergencies.
- Lead the immediate team (dental nurse and reception staff) when the management team is unavailable.
- Assist with closing down and securing the building after sessions.
- Work across multiple sites as required.
- Participate in personal development, appraisal, clinical audit, peer review, and other governance activities.
- Complete mandatory training and CPD relevant to the service.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety, CQC, and Livewell Southwest policies.
Person Specification – Experience
- Experience providing NHS dental care.
- Excellent clinical skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Computer and digital radiographs.
Person Specification – Qualifications
- Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or equivalent.
- Current GDC registration without restrictions.
- NHS performer number.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Evidence of CPD and a current Personal Development Plan.
- Immediate Life Support (desirable).
- Post‑graduate qualification (desirable).
