Under little or no supervision, the Maintenance Worker - Utilities will perform or assist in a wide variety of municipal sewer, water and drainage system installation, maintenance and repair functions using motorized equipment, hand and power tools in a manner which will ensure safe, economical, effective and timely results.

Conduct various preventative maintenance activities on municipal water system.
- Respond to emergency calls and inspects system for leaks.
- Flush city water mains; locate curb stop shut‑off valves; exercise valves.
- Maintain appropriate records relating to each program.
Complete or assist in water distribution system repair and replacement.
- Install service taps and connections.
- Repair or replace water main as appropriate.
- Service or replace hydrant parts to ensure reliable operation.
- Inspect and service standard water meters for accuracy and replaces worn parts or defective meters.
Perform preventative maintenance functions on sanitary sewer system.
- Operate or assist in the operation of sewer cleaning equipment, such as sewer jet, vactor or other related equipment.
- Check lift stations for malfunctions and appropriate operation.
- Assist in the various phases of the inflow/infiltration study.
- Locate and inspect sewer lines and reports problems.
- Maintain appropriate records relating to each program.
Complete or assist in sanitary sewer repair and replacement.
- Repair lift stations as authorized; cleans and repair manholes; taps sewer connections; replace defective sewer lines.
Respond to customer service requests and system malfunction alarms.
- Respond to customer questions, both sewer and water.
- Investigate nature and source of problem; attempt to identify corrective means needed.
- Determine appropriate party to make corrections, if necessary.
- Prepare and submit necessary records to supervisor.
Perform storm sewer/storm water drainage way maintenance, repair and installations.
- Inspect culverts, catch basins and ditches to ascertain the necessity of maintenance or repair.
- Rebuild catch basins, manholes in various degrees as necessary.
- Remove and replace concrete curb and gutter.
- Identify, analyze and correct drainage deficiencies.
Utilize a variety of equipment to conduct seasonal snow and ice control functions as necessary.
- Plow snow utilizing necessary equipment.
- Apply salt and deicers in appropriate proportions. Keeps accurate records as directed.
- Plows sidewalks and other surfaces.
- Respond to snow/ice related work outside of scheduled work hours.
Equipment uses and operations.
- Perform CDL inspections/pre‑operation checks; perform all pre‑operational checks and maintenance according to the manufacturer recommendations on all non CDL vehicles.
- Report all equipment damage and accident to supervisor immediately; report all equipment maintenance needs using “Vehicle Repair Order/CDL Book” to equipment supervisor or immediate supervisor.
- Make minor equipment repairs and adjustments as capable or as assigned.
Keep supervisor promptly informed of all significant matters he/she must know to perform his/her position responsibilities effectively.
Perform or assist in other duties and responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- Six months municipal water/wastewater experience or equivalent.
- Valid Minnesota driver's license with good driving record.
- Must obtain a valid Class A Minnesota commercial learner permit (CLP) within three (3) months of hire.
