This position is in Plymouth, MN, in the Electrophysiology (EP) medical device division. Abbott’s EP business advances the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough technologies in atrial fibrillation, enabling people to restore their health.
This role drives continuous improvement and lean principles. It is responsible for the shift’s performance in safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost.
What You’ll Work On- Maintain high visibility with production staff; use a hands-on approach to communicate daily and involve staff in problem solving.
- Develop a high-performance work team with high morale, satisfaction, and performance.
- Create a respectful work environment by listening, seeking facts, managing reactions, and addressing unacceptable behavior.
- Provide coaching and performance communication to support development.
- Review production schedules to identify and resolve problems.
- Ensure product quality through standard work, training, and use of tools/data.
- Support and implement new, customer-focused processes aligned with lean principles; provide training and coaching to improve standard work, 5S, and housekeeping; lead change as required.
- Encourage continuous improvement and empower staff to challenge processes and implement solutions.
- Assist production staff in understanding company policies and practices.
- Maintain time and production records; communicate with staff daily about performance, safety, quality, and policy changes.
- Communicate with other supervisors and personnel regarding equipment, schedules, and policies.
- Hire and retain a diverse, qualified staff and maintain a safe, professional environment.
- Support Company initiatives related to QMS, EMS, and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize Root Cause Problem Solving techniques and lead cross-functional teams to resolve product quality issues.
- Improve product quality, labor efficiency, and throughput with Lean manufacturing concepts.
2nd Shift: Mon - Thurs approximately 3:30 PM – 2:30 AM (times may shift to accommodate other schedules).
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations, life sciences, or related field required or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in manufacturing operations leadership.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to set goals and provide constructive feedback.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally.
- 4+ years in a regulated manufacturing environment (medical device or pharmaceutical preferred).
- Knowledge of FDA regulations, ISO 13485, and GMP.
- Lean manufacturing principles and tools.
- Cleanroom operations and contamination control.
