Job Summary

The Senior Compliance Specialist is responsible for reviewing and approving the work of Compliance Specialist team members to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to all affordable housing program requirements. This role serves as a quality control checkpoint, ensuring files are audit-ready and compliant before submission. The Senior Compliance Specialist also provides guidance, coaching, and support to junior compliance staff, while assisting with reporting and audit preparation.

By serving as both a reviewer and mentor, this position helps maintain high compliance standards across the portfolio and fosters a culture of excellence within the compliance team.

Responsibilities
  • Review and approve move in and annual recertification files prepared by Compliance Specialists to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with program guidelines.
  • Assist with file processing when needed.
  • Provide clear feedback to Compliance Specialists on corrections, deficiencies, or improvements needed to maintain compliance standards.
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for complex compliance questions, providing guidance to both site teams and compliance staff.
  • Assist with preparing compliance reporting for investors, state agencies, and internal leadership.
  • Support internal and external audit preparation by ensuring files are audit-ready and addressing findings promptly.
  • Track compliance activity and reporting deadlines, and escalating concerns to Compliance Managers as needed.
  • Mentor and support Compliance Specialists by sharing expertise, answering questions, and reinforcing best practices.
  • Collaborate with Compliance Manager and Director to identify trends, training needs, and process improvements.
  • Take on additional compliance-related projects and assignments to support business needs.
Requirements
  • Must have 4-5+ years of Affordable housing compliance experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated expertise in affordable housing compliance, including knowledge of LIHTC and other housing program requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify errors and ensure accuracy under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills, with the ability to provide constructive feedback to junior staff.
  • Experience reviewing files for investor, state agency, or internal compliance audits.
  • Proficiency with property management and compliance software (e.g., Yardi, Rent Café) preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and accuracy.
