Summary/Purpose

In this role, you will report to the Test Lab Manager and work to coordinate and perform lab testing in support of the Automotive Steering Systems business unit. You will develop and support production of a variety of steering technologies as part of a dynamic team, finding solutions to interesting challenges.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities
  • Provide technical assistance in part design and applications; aid in systematic problem solving; communicate and/or collaborate with JTEKT/customer as necessary.
  • Support development and implementation of new products and product improvements (I.e. VE/VA).
  • Assist in advancing, utilizing, and managing test laboratory facilities and equipment.
  • Support training and development needs as identified.
  • Participate in product development activities to ensure that the customer’s expectations are met and/or exceeded.
  • Document, and report as appropriate, resultant data, information, requirements, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Develop validation tests and monitor machine performance as part of test troubleshooting.
  • Hands‑on work assembling and disassembling test machines, working with mechanical systems, hydraulics, electronic controls.

  • Knowledge of PC and related software, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Trainable; desire to learn.
  • Ability to work with and knowledge of hand tools.
  • Knowledge of calibration procedures.
  • Knowledge of machine programming and PID tuning.
  • Familiarity with CAN communication tools (ie Vector CANape) and/or other tools and processes related to automotive product development
  • Familiarity with safety standards including IEC 61508 and ISO 26262
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Related experience with product validation testing and/or prototyping.
  • Previous experience in engineering department interactions is preferred.
Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Work is mostly performed in a normal office setting, and with substantial time spent working on a computer. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other equipment, including test equipment.
  • The performance of this position will require exposure to lab environments and manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, safety footwear and mandatory hearing protection.
  • Communicate (hearing and speech) with individuals in person and by phone.
  • Maintain a minimum of 8 hours worked/day, 5 days/week onsite.
  • Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 5% of the time.
