Overview
PreK-3 Teacher Full Time
, Monday–Friday. We are blessed at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish School (OLGC) in Plymouth, MI to have a mission to offer life-changing encounters with Jesus and equip leaders to transform the culture. We foster holiness and serve as a center of evangelization and discipleship for students, families, and faculty.
Role Summary
We are seeking a PreK-3 teacher to join our OLGC family. The candidate will thrive in a team environment with a desire to advance our mission. Prospective team members are encouraged to discern:
- The mission and vision of the Archdiocese of Detroit to renew our Catholic schools in missionary discipleship.
- What it means to have a personal encounter with Jesus and live the faith.
- What it takes for every staff member to build a cohesive team, a culture of prayer, and to regularly evangelize and disciple each other.
Instructional Strategies
- Design instruction for 3-year-old preschool students using developmentally appropriate materials and methods.
- Cultivate a classroom environment based on our Catholic faith with an attentiveness to the encounter with Jesus Christ.
- Apply differentiated instruction and assessment that improves achievement for all learners in a learner-centered and collaborative environment.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Collaborate with the PreK team to design and implement instructional strategies.
- Implement research-based practices including hands-on labs, project-based learning, and small group teaching.
- Consistently create a high level of active student engagement and student-led learning.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process including iPads, Clever Touch boards, and online instructional platforms.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal teaching and assessment.
- Target individual learning targets for student growth.
- Manage student behavior in alignment with Education in Virtue and the Student Code of Conduct, using a positive and proactive management system.
Professional Expectations
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, staff and community members.
- Support parents as the primary catechists and educators for their children through relational ministry, resources, and tools.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Commit to continual improvement professionally and spiritually.
- Obtain an Advanced Catechist Certification in the Archdiocese of Detroit.
- Follow licensing requirements.
Qualifications
- All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and/or approved for teaching by the Michigan Department of Education.
- All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach.
- All teachers who are catechists (teachers of religion) must be certified by the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools.
