We are blessed at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish School (OLGC) in Plymouth, MI to have a beautiful mission to offer life-changing encounters with Jesus and equip leaders to transform the culture. We are called to foster holiness and serve as a center of evangelization and discipleship for students, families, and faculty.

ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking a junior high school teacher for grades 6 - 8th to join our OLGC family. The candidate will thrive in a team environment with a desire to advance our mission.

With this in mind, we are asking each prospective member of our team to prayerfully discern:

  • The mission and vision of the Archdiocese of Detroit to renew and reinvent our Catholic schools in missionary discipleship.
  • What it means to have a personal encounter with Jesus and live the faith.
  • What it takes for every staff member to build a cohesive team, culture of prayer, and regularly evangelize and disciple each other.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement a coherent curriculum plan using the Archdiocese of Detroit Social Studies Curriculum Standards and may include other core curriculum subjects.
  • Design and implement lesson plans that integrate Gospel values into the core curriculum.
  • Apply differentiated instruction and assessment that improves achievement for all learners in a learner-centered and collaborative environment.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Work with other staff members on curriculum mapping, vertical alignment and to set instructional goals, objectives, and methods of instruction.
  • Implement research-based practices including hands-on labs, project-based learning, small group teaching.
  • Consistently create a high level of active student engagement and student-led learning.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process including iPads, Clever Touch boards. Google Classroom and online instructional platforms, such as IXL or Lab Learner.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal teaching and assessment.
  • Use STAR 360 testing data to target individual learning targets for students growth.
  • Manage student behavior in using Education in Virtue and in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, using a positive and proactive management system.
Professional Expectations
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, staff and community members.
  • Support parents as the primary catechists and educators for their children through relational ministry, resources, and tools.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Commit to continual improvement professionally and spiritually
  • Obtain an Advanced Catechist Certification in the Archdiocese of Detroit.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and/or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan.
  • All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach.
  • All teachers who are catechists (teachers of religion) must be certified by the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools.
