StateReclamation and Mosquito Control Board (SRB)
The State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board oversees mosquito control in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including 11 regional programs. It establishes administrative and technical policies, guidelines, and best management practices to ensure mosquito control programs are safe and effective.
Job OpeningThe Plymouth County Mosquito Control Project, located at 272 South Meadow Rd Plymouth, MA is an agency of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that provides mosquito control services and is currently seeking applicants to fill one (1) Seasonal Field Assistant position. This is a short term position and does not include benefits other than earned sick leave.
A cover letter and resume must be submitted as part of the application process and attached “as relevant” to the requisition.
Must possess a current valid Massachusetts driver’s license and an excellent driving record. Must be able to carry 40lbs over rough terrain. Show the ability to be self directed and manage projects. Must pass a Project-provided physical examination.
Responsibilities- Set out and retrieve mosquito traps for West Nile Virus testing and EEE virus.
- Identify mosquitoes and prepare samples.
- Drive collections into MA department of Public Health for virus testing weekly.
- Ability to use a microscope for long periods of time doing detailed work.
- Candidate has demonstrated interest in biology or public health.
- Keep trucks, equipment and Project facilities clean and in good working order.
- Assist with additional research projects as needed.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Training around the scientific method and biological sciences
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to identify saltmarsh plants, birds and insects.
- Familiarity with the geography of Plymouth County.
- Ability to take and pass Project-mandated drug/alcohol test.
