Maintenance Mechanic – Pleasant Prairie, WI

Job Description

As a Mechanic Operator you are responsible for the maintenance and operation of filling and packaging equipment, and for providing assistance to the Maintenance Mechanic with repairs throughout the plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to keep machines running smoothly and to maintain building systems.
  • Inspect drives, motors, belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions following checklists.
  • Use hand and power tools—hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches—as well as precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Assemble, install, or repair wiring, piping, machinery, and equipment.
  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them using repair manuals and parts catalogs.
  • Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
  • Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
Responsibilities & Expectations
  • Communicate with supervisors, peers, or subordinates in written or verbal form.
  • Maintain a good record of attendance and punctuality.
  • Learn all manual tasks performed within the department.
  • Perform tasks using specific operating procedures and following department‑specific quality control procedures.
  • Treat people with dignity and respect.
  • Conduct all business with integrity.
  • Adhere to Rust‑Oleum quality principles and participate in all departmental and company‑wide quality activities.
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
Required Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of industrial experience.
  • Experience with filling and packaging equipment.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and follow standard operating procedures.
  • Basic math skills and computer data entry.
  • Team coordination and problem‑solving skills.
  • Active participation in Continuous Improvement processes.
  • Capability to lift 75 pounds.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.
Additional Considerations
  • Exposure to quality programs.
  • Knowledge or experience in paint, coatings, or chemical industry.
  • Experience with continuous process disciplines such as Six Sigma, Lean, or TQM manufacturing environment.
  • Prior participation in safety programs.
Shift Schedule

Flex

Schedule:

6:00 PM to 6:15 AM shift following a 3-6-3-2 rotation—3 days on, 6 days off, 3 days on, 2 days off. Week 1:
Mon, Tue, Wed. Week 2:
Wed, Thurs, Fri. Each 12.5‑hour shift includes 30‑minute unpaid lunch and 3 paid 15‑minute breaks. Shift premium is $1.25.
