Wage: $12-$15/hour

Part-time, non-benefitted, non-exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Swim Team Coaches serve under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager and the Head Swim Team Coach. This position is responsible for the coaching of youth participating in our summer swim team program and for the safety of all team members. The Swim Teach Coach enforces water‑safety policies and serves as a role model when not on duty. Weekly hours are part‑time, seasonal (mid‑April to September), not to exceed 40 hours per week and may vary based on department needs and programming.

FUNCTIONS

AND DUTIES

Duties can include any of the following:

  • Instructs youth participants according to the swim team program as taught at Pleasant Grove Veterans Memorial Pool.
  • Assist in preparation for special activities and events.
  • Assist in rescue procedures as directed and fulfill the role outlined in the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Assist with daily basic cleanup and overall facility appearance as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a stressful aquatic environment; some medium lifting is involved.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Moderate physical activity; requires standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours/day.
  • Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks; requires following basic safety precautions and procedures.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and in writing.
  • Good public relations and customer service skills under sometimes stressful situations.
  • Ability to understand written and spoken instructions.
  • Ability to lift 15 to 50 pounds.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Prior experience is a plus, but not required.

CONDITIONS

This position is expected to instruct and supervise all participants for whom they are assigned. May be required to work in adverse weather conditions and to lift, carry, and manage equipment. They may have to work odd or long hours to complete special requests or projects and may participate in or coordinate evening and off‑hour activities. Hours may include weekends and some holidays and may vary according to the season and activities.

This position may also, at times, participate in and lead strenuous physical activities.
