Role Overview
Vermont Mechanical is seeking a Lead Licensed Plumber to play a key role within its piping organization. This individual works independently as a Journeyman or Master Plumber while serving as a mentor and leader to Apprentice Plumbers. The position leads assigned jobsites or partners closely with a Piping Foreman on larger, more complex projects.
The Lead Licensed Plumber is responsible for overseeing daily jobsite execution, maintaining high quality and safety standards, coordinating manpower and scheduling needs, and ensuring plumbing and piping systems are installed accurately and in compliance with all applicable codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership and guidance to Apprentice Plumbers, serving as a role model for professionalism, safety, and workmanship
- Lead plumbing activities on assigned jobsites or work under general guidance on large-scale projects
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine installation requirements
- Assemble and install plumbing and piping systems for water, waste, gas, and other mechanical systems
- Ensure all systems meet company quality standards, project specifications, and local/state codes
- Coordinate work across job sites and with other trades as needed to support schedules and progress
- Prepare for installations by selecting materials, sizing pipe, cutting openings, installing hangers, and preassembling components
- Perform soldering, threading, Pro Press, and brazing as required
- Measure, cut, thread, bend, and align pipe accurately
- Test systems, identify leaks, and confirm installations match final drawings
- Participate in inspections and walkthroughs with inspectors and project stakeholders
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite; immediately report safety concerns or incidents
- Maintain assigned tools and equipment per preventive maintenance guidelines
- Attend jobsite and company meetings to discuss progress, safety, and coordination
- Support other departments or operate forklifts and construction lifts when properly trained
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support project and team needs
- Active Journeyman or Master Plumber license in Vermont (with responsibility to maintain certification)
- Additional certifications such as VT Natural Gas or Propane, NH Gas Fitter, and/or Medical Gas are beneficial
- High school diploma or GED required; equivalent education and experience considered
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel within VT and NY
- OSHA 10 certification preferred or ability to obtain within 14 days of hire
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, solve problems, and work both independently and as part of a team
- In-depth knowledge of piping systems, supports, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with jobsite safety policies and construction best practices
- Reliable, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment
- Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as required (typically Monday-Friday, 8-hour days)
- Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping
- Frequent lifting or moving of materials up to 75 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds
- Work performed in active construction environments, including exposure to outdoor weather conditions
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work at heights
- Repetitive motion and use of hand tools are required
