Duties Description Working both within a crew and alone, this position is responsible for the upkeep of campus grounds including but not limited to, mowing lawns by hand and with power equipment; management of trees, shrubbery, plants, and flowers, including the pulling of weeds; spraying of pesticides under the supervision of a certified applicator; and maintaining outdoor athletic and recreational facilities.
In the winter, duties are expected to include shoveling, plowing, and snow blowing of snow which requires the proper and safe use of multiple types of equipment and vehicles. Other duties may include patching blacktop and operating chainsaws. Ensuring the proper maintenance of grounds equipment is also necessary. Using appropriate PPE and selecting and safely using the appropriate tools and equipment needed to complete the assigned tasks as well as attending job related training will be required.
As illustrated, it is important to note that the activities and tasks assigned will vary according to the season and daily weather conditions. Early morning, evening, and weekend work is also expected and may be required based on operational needs, resulting in overtime. This position is also subject to recall when deemed necessary by appropriate personnel. Additional Comments Grounds Maintenance is dedicated to maintaining the natural beauty of our 300-acre campus completing routine maintenance for a variety of surfaces and areas. We are part of the Administration & Finance division which provides essential services to our campus, local, state, federal and international customers. We are responsible for human, physical, financial and technical resources. As professionals, we navigate systems in a collaborative and sensitive way to assist the University in achieving its educational mission.
This position is expected to work Monday-Friday, 6:00a.m - 2:30p.m. These temporary positions are expected to begin in mid-April and end in mid-October.
