The successful candidate may be offered a position in either the Irrigation Technician I or the Irrigation Technician II classification. Pay ranges:
Irrigation Technician I: $18.58 - $21.37 per hour;
Irrigation Technician II
: $20.48 – $23.56 per hour.

Full time, regular, located at Parks and Recreation.

Responsibilities

As an Irrigation Technician I or Irrigation Technician II
, you will maintain irrigation systems across parks, medians, sports complexes, and golf courses. Duties include diagnosing and repairing faulty irrigation components, assisting with installations, ensuring proper system operation, responding to work orders, and operating specialized equipment such as trenchers, wire locators, and skid steers. You may also perform general landscaping duties.

Irrigation Technician I – Summary of Duties

Under basic supervision, trains and assists in the maintenance, installation, and renovation of irrigation systems on parks, public building grounds, medians, and athletic fields.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Entry‑level classification; follows routine procedures and works under basic supervision, with occasional review by a superior.

Essential Job Functions
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with faulty irrigation components for municipal park properties.
  • Assist in maintaining and supporting irrigation system components located in parks, public grounds, medians, entry points, sports complexes, or the golf course, ensuring proper operation, installation, and repair.
  • Responsible for safe maintenance and operation of irrigation systems and components, protecting the public from hazards created by maintenance and repair operations.
  • Participate in responding to and resolving internally and externally generated work orders, complaints, and inquiries.
  • Assist with performing regularly scheduled inspections of irrigation systems and components.
  • Assist with the installation of new irrigation systems.
  • Secure necessary supplies to complete each project or work order; learn to safely operate and utilize equipment and tools including trenchers, wire locators, backhoes, skid steers, and chainsaws.
  • Maintain daily work reports.
  • May perform additional landscaping support duties and maintenance involving mowing, trimming, and utilizing light construction equipment.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Marginal Duties

Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Decisions

Incumbent may investigate irrigation problems and recommend appropriate repairs.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of large area irrigation system and component installation, operation, maintenance, and repair, as well as related safety practices and procedures.

Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; utilizing hand tools and materials commonly used to maintain irrigation systems.

Education high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience a minimum of six (6) months of experience in maintaining irrigation systems and landscaping. Any work‑related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above minimum qualifications is an acceptable substitute.

Licenses and Certifications valid Class C driver's license required (must obtain within 30 days of hire). TCEQ Irrigator's License, Landscape Irrigation Auditor, and TCEQ Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester preferred.
