Job Description

The City of Plano Parks and Recreation Department seeks a skilled Park Electrical Technician to maintain electrical systems and fixtures in parks, athletic complexes, and shared PISD properties. The role involves troubleshooting electrical systems, working with automated lighting controls, interpreting construction plans, and collaborating with contractors and city staff on projects.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, components, fixtures, lamps, and timers for park, shared PISD properties, and athletic complex electrical systems.
  • Collect computer data using automated lighting system controls to diagnose and prescribe corrective measures for electrical system malfunctions.
  • Secure supplies and use vehicles and specialized equipment as required for projects, maintenance, repairs, and replacements.
  • Read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and structural drawings and site plans related to park electrical systems.
  • Assist in design review and inspection of park electrical projects, ensuring compliance with department specifications, guidelines, and local codes.
  • Administer Park Services electrical contracts performed by outside contractors.
  • Respond to work orders, complaints, and inquiries, both internal and external, and maintain accurate records of inspections and status.
  • Maintain compliance with departmental service request and work management system, entering entries as required.
  • Coordinate with other Parks and City staff to organize scheduled work and activities.
  • Operate bucket truck equipped with air brakes when servicing athletic light poles.
  • Assist in supporting and supervising department‑ and city‑sponsored special events as needed.
  • May lead work activities of others and assist in asset‑management program support.
  • Provide emergency assistance to citizens or other city departments when required.
  • Maintain regular and dependable attendance for the assigned work schedule.
Marginal Duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Decisions

The incumbent will set and maintain work priorities, diagnose electrical system problems, determine maintenance and repair methods, evaluate compliance with codes and regulations, and assess on‑site risk to secure solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of commercial or municipal electrical system maintenance and repair experience, with at least six (6) months of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of park and athletic electrical system maintenance, electrical safety, electrical codes, three‑phase supply, and computer operations.
  • Skill in communicating effectively, troubleshooting, utilizing vehicles/equipment/tools, and reporting field data.
  • Valid Class “C” driver’s license prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” license within 30 days of hire). Must obtain a Class “A” CDL within one year of hire. State of Texas Journeyman Electrician’s License preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Any work‑related experience providing acceptable proficiency in the above minimum qualifications.
Conditions of Employment

Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (where required), and social security number verification.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Requires mobility to work around buildings, parks, and streets; operation of equipment and motor vehicles; manual handling up to 80 pounds. Exposure to noise, weather, hazards, and chemicals. The position may involve bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. Reasonable accommodations are available as needed.
