Responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients including assessment, treatment, care planning, and medical care and evaluation by following established professional standards and practices. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians.
Responsibilities- Obtain patient consent for care, ensure patient confidentiality, and document health history, chief complaint, vital signs and health risk factors.
- Provide patient care based on nursing practice guidelines, company policies, INS standards, and federal/state laws.
- Execute prescribed treatments and medical interventions; administer prescribed medications; monitor and document treatment progress.
- Refer and consult with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to resolve problems.
- Educate patients and families on health status, maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
- Document patient assessment and intervention using established medical record systems.
- Maintain and review patient records; post test results; maintain accurate inventory of all medications.
- Respond to and refer incoming patient treatment‑related phone calls.
- Administer all medications: PO, IV, SC, IM as prescribed.
- Coordinate and execute treatment plans for patients.
- Schedule follow‑up appointments.
- Collaborate with GIA Research department as required.
- Perform other duties as directed or assigned.
Education: RN degree; completion of nursing training from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
Experience: Minimum 3 years professional nursing experience; minimum 1 year infusion experience in acute, outpatient, home or physician office settings. Gastroenterology experience preferred.
Requirements for Per Diem Status- Per Diem employees work as needed to provide coverage at various infusion clinics throughout the organization.
- Per Diem employees do not work on a recurring or set schedule.
- Current state registered nurse license, current CPR certificate; CRNI certification preferred.
- Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure, functions and community resources.
- Understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies and state law on nursing care.
- Familiarity with nursing practice guidelines, INS standards and GIA policies.
- Proficiency in obtaining and maintaining intravenous access through peripheral IV catheter insertion and/or central venous access devices.
- Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation requirements and HIPAA laws.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety hazards and precautions.
- Skill and knowledge in applying and modifying nursing principles to provide ongoing patient care.
- Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, prioritizing, and medical care coordination.
- Skill in verbal and written communication.
- Skill in initiating appropriate crisis interventions and emergency response.
- Skill in patient triage in person and on the phone.
- Skill in preparing/maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.
- Ability to analyze options and counsel patients and families; make referrals.
- Ability to read and interpret physicians’ orders and notes.
- Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Perform other clinical duties as deemed appropriate by nursing management/supervisor.
Standard nursing equipment and supplies including infusion pumps; may involve use of assistive devices such as walkers, wheelchairs, BP monitoring devices, thermometers, pulse oximetry units, and oxygen tanks. Working knowledge of computer practice management software, internet and MS Office applications.
Work EnvironmentVaried activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting. Requires full range of body motion, handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions.
Mental/Physical RequirementsCombination of office and clinic settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
